Market Info

The Takoma Park Farmers Market is the Washington area’s first Sunday market and an early pioneer in the producers-only movement. We are located on Laurel Avenue in the quaint, historic shopping district in Takoma Park.  There are 25 vendors that offer a wide variety of fresh bread and baked goods, artisan cheeses, pasture raised meats, charcuterie, mushrooms, fruit, vegetables, prepared foods, wine and more.

The market has been operating since 1983.   Learn more about our history here.

Dogs are not allowed in the market.

Fresh, Local Food

It is our mission to offer only fresh, local food at the market. Products sold at the market must be produced within a 125-mile radius of Takoma Park. An astonishing array of fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products comes from our regional foodshed, but some things just can’t be grown here. You won’t find bananas at the Takoma Park Farmers Market. Only food and agricultural products will be sold at the market.

Organic?

Customers often ask if everything sold at the market is organic. The answer is no. Some farmers have been certified as organic, others follow an organic regimen but have not sought certification, and others use an integration of organic or non-organic methods.

Accepted Currencies at the Market

Cash
Cash is accepted and typically the preferred payment method of vendors.

Credit/Debit Cards
All of our vendors take credit or debits cards.

Market Tokens
Shoppers can use the fee free market ATM to purchase $5 tokens at the Market Info Booth using a credit/debit card. This option offers lower fees to farmers so many of them prefer tokens over using a credit card at their booth. These tokens can be used to purchase all market items and should be used like a $5 bill. Change is provided. Tokens are non-refundable once purchased and do not expire.

SNAP Benefits
SNAP/EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards are accepted. To use your card, visit the market information booth, where you will receive $1 wooden tokens, which may be spent directly at vendor booths. $1 EBT Tokens may only be used to purchase SNAP-eligible foods such as fruits, vegetables, meats, bread, cheese, nuts, eggs, and plants intended for growing food. $1 EBT Tokens may not be used for non-food items, hot prepared foods.
Vendors cannot give change back.

FMNP WIC Benefits
Electronic WIC benefits are accepted at participating vendor booths. Look for posted signs or check with the Market Info Booth

Blue Tokens
These blue tokens are provided to offer additional purchasing power at the market. The market is able to offer them as funding is available to match EBT or WIC benefits. You will receive them directly at the Market Info Booth when using your EBT/SNAP benefits. When using FMNP WIC, you will receive a coupon at the vendor booth which may be redeemed after at the Market Info Booth.
